Pilot Licenses and Certficates

Sports
With recent changes in FAA rules, the sports pilot license has become the most exciting development in General Aviation. While it is more limited than a private pilot license, it is easier to earn, it required half the time, costs about half as much, and can serve as a stepping stone to the private pilot.

Private
This is the traditional entry point for learning to fly. This remains the standard and if you know that you will want to fly with more than one passenger, fly at night or if you plan to progress on to instrument rating or commercial certificate.

Commercial
Private pilots who want to make a career and be paid or those who want to develop their skills to the next level will pursue a commercial certificate. This will allow them to work for charter and other commercial operations and demand increased precision in flying.

Instrument Rating
Earning an instrument rating opens the door for a private pilot to get above the clouds and fly in more diverse weather conditions. Learning to fly in inclement weather will require a deeper understanding of weather, navigation by instruments, and a deeper understanding of human factors and aeromedical knowledge that could affect flight in weather conditions.

Complex Endorsement
Earning the complex endorsement allows a pilot to move beyond flying basic trainers and to fly aircraft with retractable landing gear, controllable pitch propeller, and flaps. These planes typically allow you to fly farther, faster, and higher.
